Last Litter - the "K" LitterThese are pictures from our last litter, the "K" litter, whelped on January 2, 2007. They are all sold. After removing them from my web, I received many complaints that they want them back on, so here they are!! I'll keep them on for a while longer . . . Meet the Parents: "K" LitterThe Dam"Skye" (Chaparral BangZ Rice Crk Skye) won the 2002 GSCA National Field Trial Puppy Stake and in 2003 was the Gordon Setter Club of America's Derby Dog of the Year. My very good friend, Linda Sanders of Chaparral Gordons, bred Skye. I feel very fortunate to be a co-owner of Skye, because she is probably one of the most exciting, smart and hard-going Gordons I've ever owned. Skye spent most of her first few years training and living with Greg Dixon, a pro trainer for field trials. She traveled to Texas in the winter with Greg and throughout many states during the trial season. Greg trained many of Skye's littermates as well, and while impressed with most of them, he's told me that Skye has what it takes to be a phenomenal dog. While Skye was away trialing, it was killing Joe and I not to have her here hunting with us. It went against all of our instincts to NOT have a dog learning the real hunting game while she was young. So, after discussing it with Linda, we decided to pull her from the trial circuit and she's been hunting ever since. This fall was her first experience with Ruffed Grouse hunting. Joe couldn't believe how she nailed her first grouse EVER and continued to point them this whole season. She has an unbelievable amount of point to her and she is very careful with her birds. She is also pretty as a picture with a high head and tail on point - a beautiful sight to see. She's already gone on many out of state pheasant hunts both last year and this year - and can go and go for days. At 45 pounds, she has a light, athletic build that allows her to move easily through the field. Not only is she an excellent pointing dog, but she also loves to retrieve. You can see more about Skye and her pedigree on her page - Skye's page. The SireRU NFC DC/AFC Carolina's All Hat, No Cattle - "Stetson". OFA-Excellent.
Stetson, I must admit, is my favorite Gordon of all time. He is a wonderful balance of tremendous hunt and drive in the field and couch potato in the house. To me, he is one of the most beautiful, balanced and athletic Gordons I've ever seen. He is 25 1/2 inches from the ground to his withers and weighs 55 pounds when in field trial/hunt weight. His temperament is sweet, he is intelligent and biddable. Stetson is a natural retriever, has good field manners (natural honor) and he hopes to become a Master Hunter this year! As you can tell, I can't say enough about this dog. This is my second breeding to Stetson and I'm expecting outstanding puppies out of these two. In addition to achieving his conformation championship, his field championship, and amateur field championship, Stetson was the runner up to the National Field Champion at the Gordon Setter Club of America National Field Trial in 2005. He has consistently placed in all breed field trials and he has had field trial judges request to hunt behind him, due to how impressed they were with him. While breeding Zayna to Stetson a couple of years ago, I had the chance to live with Stetson at the Holloway house in North Carolina for a week. The chance to see Stetson in his own environment made me even more impressed with his temperament, attitude, field ability and his intelligence. He's a joy to be around.
