In 1989, when I went down to Las Vegas (Chaparral
Gordons) to pick up Abbey, our foundation bitch, there was this six year old
spayed female who just couldn't keep her face out of mine. She was so
sweet, and when I flew back with the long-awaited pup, Abbey, Dora came to
Minnesota, too.
Linda Sanders had finished her championship with
her and she had also put 2 Master Hunter legs on her. Dean Fries finished
her Master Hunter title and Shelley LeBlanc put her CD title on her.
My most memorable experiences with Dora were 1)
When she moved from the desert to the north woods - she didn't seem to BELIEVE
there were SO many TREES on this earth! 2) Whenever she hunted grouse and
the grouse flushed into a tree, she would put her front paws up on the tree
trunk and HOWL like a coonhound!! 3) On one of her passes in Master
Hunter, she was standing steady on point when the quail flushed. She
didn't move a foot, but proceeded to open her mouth and
"allow" the quail to fly into her mouth! The judge said that she
never moved a foot, so she passed - it was pretty hilarious!! She was VERY entertaining and a BIG
sweetie pie. She is missed greatly.
Dora died on February 21, 1994, and is buried here
at Rice Creek. Dora was co-owned by Shelley, Linda Sanders and Dean Fries.
