The Essence of Setters
Author Marsha Hall Brown
In the fall of 2001, I was contacted by the above
author and asked to write the "field" chapter to her new book coming
out. I was both flattered and challenged. My background and knowledge has
been in breeding and training for dual type Gordon Setters; with the emphasis on
natural hunting instincts. However, I was NOT the person to ask about
training tips. I asked Joe if he would want to co-write this with me, I
got the okay from Marsha - and we were off!
Joe has always wanted to write a training book -
and that will probably never happen now that he is semi-retired from training,
but this was very close to reaching that goal. We would like to thank
Marsha Hall Brown for working so professionally with us and providing us the
opportunity to do this.
We are providing a link to the web site for the
book. The chapter entitled, "Setters at Work and at Play" is the
chapter we wrote for the book.
It was a great pleasure to work with Marsha Hall
Brown who is an AKC Judge and has been a breeder of English Setters for a long
time. It was quite refreshing and enlightening to discuss issues about our
setters in the ring and in the field. It was especially enjoyable to talk
with an AKC Judge who TRULY cares about the working ability, movement and
original function of the setters.

Now, instead of repeating over and over how to
start our new puppy buyers' pups - we just point them to the book and tell them
to read it!
